How the electric bike works
In order to understand how an e-bike works, you should consider the proper designation of this vehicle. Its real name is “Pedelec” (Pedal Electric Cycle), which refers to a bicycle with pedal assistance. A clear but significant difference that needs to be considered: With a real e-bike you don’t actually have to pedal (comparable to a moped) but you do with a Pedelec. The motor is only activated by moving the pedals and reduces the effort required for this to a minimum. A driving experience that is comparable to cycling with a tailwind.
How long the battery lasts

The requirements for driving an electric bike
You do not need a driver’s license to ride an e-bike in Tenerife. The bike does not exceed the speed of 25 km / h, therefore it is also exempt from insurance. However, there are certain minimum requirements that the operators or rentals set, including physical fitness, driving skills, maximum weight or minimum age. What you must definitely take with you
- Provisions: Sufficient drinking water is required for your excursion in order to maintain your water balance. At least 2 litres per person. Also, high-energy snacks such as muesli bars, nuts or bananas.
- Backpack: indispensable for conveniently transporting everything you need.
- T-Shirt: Ideally, it should be a UV-resistant T-shirt. It should also be breathable and most importantly, comfortable.
- Clothing: Your clothing should generally be comfortable and loose so that you can move freely. Movements should not only be easy to perform, but also without a garment tugging or even chafing. Sportswear is best.
- Bicycle utensils: On e-MTB tours, you should wear gloves and cycling trousers to absorb shocks. The padding in the special clothing also offers comfort on longer journeys.
- Closed-toe shoes: Sandals or flip-flops are clearly not suitable footwear for this type of activity. You must wear trainers, especially to ensure your safety.
- Jackets or windbrakers: To protect yourself from the wind, which can be very cold depending on the region and season. Jackets are particularly recommended from October to May.
- Sun protection: The sun in the Canary Islands is very strong practically all year round. The cool breeze often belies it. It is therefore imperative to use sunscreen with a high sun protection factor on your trips. You should also reapply it every now and then while on tour.
- Sunglasses: important to protect your eyes from annoying sun rays, small stones or insects.
